Professor Margarida Amorim, PhD, has been awarded a PhD.

Coimbra, 16 December 2025

Professor Margarida Amorim, PhD, defended her thesis entitled ‘Vestibular Impairment in Usher Syndrome: From the Labyrinth to the Cortex, to obtain her PhD from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Coimbra, on 16 December 2025.

This thesis makes a very significant contribution to the scientific and clinical community by revealing information that is extremely relevant to the improved management and care of people with Usher syndrome, whilst also challenging established assumptions, such as the notion that individuals with Usher type 2 do not experience vestibular impairment.

Thank you so much for the scientific knowledge you have brought us – it’s a source of great pride!

APO warmly congratulates Professor Margarida and extends its most sincere congratulations
