Brief history

Discover the history of APO

The Vertigo Study Group, which led to the founding of the Portuguese Association of Otoneurology (APO), began its work in 1994. Its key figures were Dr F Vaz Garcia, Prof. Dr Carlos Garcia, Prof. José Pimentel and Dr Maria Helena Coelho.

It organised various scientific events, notably symposia and courses, and published works in the field of otoneurology, until it ceased operations in 1998.

Presidents

The APO, established in 1997, has had the following presidents in successive three-year terms up to the present day: Dr F. Vaz Garcia, Prof. Dr Alberto Trancoso, Dr Carvalho Sofia, Dr Vítor Manuel Gabão Veiga, Dr Rosmaninho Seabra, Dr Pedro Tomé, Dr Conceição Monteiro and Prof. Dr Nuno Trigueiros.

Dr Sandra Costa currently holds the post of President for the 2022–2025 term.
