On 26 and 27 May, a Vertigo Symposium organised by Dr Rosmaninho Seabra in collaboration with the Lusíadas Knowledge Centre took place at the Porto Military Hospital.

On this occasion, Prof. Alain Semont was honoured for his significant contributions to otoneurology worldwide, notably through the invention of one of the first liberatory manoeuvres for treating BPPV – the Semont manoeuvre. Prof. Alain Semont also gave two lectures at this meeting.

This event featured some of the world’s most distinguished panellists in the field of otoneurology, namely Professors Herman Kingma (Netherlands), Mans Magnusson (Sweden), Nicolás Pérez (Spain), Raymond van der Berg (Netherlands), Renato Cal (Brazil), Sergio Carmona (Argentina) and Zuma and Maia (Brazil). Among the Portuguese speakers, we also had Dr Rosmaninho Seabra and Dr Rosa Castillo.

A wide range of topics were covered, including the anatomical and physiological basis of the vestibular system, BPPV, Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraine, vestibular rehabilitation and vestibular implants, amongst other topics.
The meeting attracted around 150 participants, including doctors, audiologists, physiotherapists and other professionals with an interest in otoneurology.
