A Portuguese Association of Otoneurology At the invitation of the Le Groupement de Recherche Physiopathologie Vestibulaire – GDR Vertige – she was invited to take part in the Vertigo and Balance Week. This is a global event that will take place from 14 to 22 September 2024.
The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness amongst the general public about otoneurological conditions.
With this in mind, a number of activities have been planned. One national screening programme which aims to screen and subsequently refer patients with vertigo and balance disorders to an otoneurology clinic. We therefore count on your personal and institutional support at the hospital or healthcare facility where you practise, to organise one or more days of screening for the general public during Vertigo Awareness Week. To facilitate and standardise the data collected, and with the overarching aim of obtaining, for the first time, a comprehensive profile of the Portuguese population with complaints of vertigo, forms are provided. Below, we have attached the questionnaire and summary clinical assessment. This can be carried out by audiologists, junior doctors specialising in the field, or young specialists.

The Vertigo Week poster features a QR code, linking to the APO website where the public can access 5 explanatory videos on vertigo, imbalance and dizziness, imbalance in older people, Ménière’s disease, vestibular migraine and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
On the day 18 September at 9.30 am there will be a videocast on vertigo for specialists in Otorhinolaryngology, Neurologists, General Practitioners and Family Doctors, Audiologists and Physiotherapists, on the topic: Ménière’s disease and vestibular migraine.
As we are certain that this event will attract a great deal of interest, we look forward to you joining us, either by helping with the screening process and/or by publicising the posters. Together, we will help raise awareness of a condition that affects a very large number of Portuguese people.
