Portuguese Association of Otoneurology

May 2015

Conceição Monteiro

The core mission of our Association is to promote scientific and technological culture in the field of otoneurology. It was with this aim in mind that we organised our annual meeting, which will take place on 4, 5 and 6 June at the Grande Real Santa Eulália Hotel in Albufeira, Algarve.
Despite the increasing number of meetings, gatherings and conferences, we believe that the programme for our meeting will help to strengthen and encourage the specialisation and professional development of all those with an interest in otoneurology.
Throughout these working days, national and international speakers will be with us, passing on their knowledge and sharing their experience, which will undoubtedly enrich us greatly, making this meeting a forum for discussion and networking for those working in the field of otoneurology.
As a multidisciplinary approach is essential for high-quality clinical practice, we felt it necessary to invite other professionals – audiologists – to take part in the panel discussion on vestibular and audiological assessment in relation to cochlear implants.
The topics chosen for this year range from tinnitus to the medical and surgical management of unilateral deafness, including ageing in otoneurology, vestibular implants, vibratory nystagmus and the pharmacological treatment of vertigo. With these topics, we have sought to respond to the requests of younger people interested in this field.
Our Association has a past, a present and a future. Much has already been achieved, but there is still much more to be done. Despite the difficult times we are going through, we must look to the future with confidence, investing in the training of the younger generations to ensure the continuity of otoneurology.
As we have already mentioned, the promotion of science is the core mission of the Portuguese Association of Otoneurology, and is essential to the development of modern societies and the well-being of citizens. We hope that this meeting will contribute to that objective.

See you in the Algarve by 5 June!
