This study, presented at the 27th Congress of the NeuroOtologic and Equilibriometric Society in Bad Kissingen, Germany, aimed to investigate the neuro-otological profile of patients aged over 65 who consult a doctor for a balance problem, whether instability or true vertigo.

We excluded, from the outset, all patients with chronic infectious middle ear disease.

All patients underwent a comprehensive audiovestibulometric assessment, which included:

• Standardised clinical history (NODEC)
• Tone audiometry
• Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials
• Electrococleography
• Craniocorpography (Romberg and Unterberger tests)
• Electronystagmography (assessment of spontaneous nystagmus, fixation nystagmus, saccadic tests, gaze-following test, caloric and rotational tests)
