Portuguese Association of Otoneurology

July 2022

Sandra Costa
Vice-President of the APO

The Portuguese Association of Otoneurology (APO) was founded in 1997, bringing together specialists in Otorhinolaryngology, neurologists and other professionals with an interest in topics such as balance disorders, vertigo, hearing and tinnitus. Since then, successive boards have organised annual scientific meetings featuring national and international speakers to promote continuous, hands-on learning, and have published guidelines and updates on the most relevant topics in otoneurology.

The APO’s Annual Congress, to be held in Tomar on 30 September and 1 October, marks the end of the three-year term under the leadership of Professor Nuno Trigueiros.

Words such as ‘stand for election’, ‘run together’, ‘candidate’, ‘he who is clothed in white, pure and spotless’, ‘vote’, ‘promise’ and ‘solemnly swear’ are the order of the day.

A new management team, led by its president, will continue the work carried out in the field of otoneurology over the last 25 years by Drs. Vaz Garcia, Alberto Trancoso, Carvalho Sofia, Vítor Gabão Veiga, Rosmaninho Seabra, Pedro Tomé, Conceição Monteiro and Nuno Trigueiros.

An association will be stronger and more representative if its members take an active part in shaping its future. The elections for the 2022–2025 term are the perfect time for members to make their voices heard. A moment of unity in support of an association that aims to be vibrant and proactive.

Let’s all go and vote. We’re all APO.
