On 4 March 2023, our 15th Winter Meeting took place in Monte Real, where the topic “Vertigo in Childhood” was discussed.
The main causes of central and peripheral vertigo were discussed, along with their impact on motor development and the acquisition of gait, and the specific features of the physical examination and supplementary vestibular tests.
The “Guidelines” published by the “Barany Society” in 2021 on vertigo in children were presented, as was the approach to managing it in an emergency setting. Ophthalmological syndromes, visual vertigo and 3PD were also discussed, with the session concluding with the specific features of treatment in this age group.
We held a “discussion” which we considered very fruitful between ENT specialists specialising in this field, paediatric neurologists and ophthalmologists, given that without this interaction it would not be possible to provide an appropriate approach for the majority of these patients.
It should be noted that a “report” will be published in due course following this meeting.
